Post High School Collegiate / Junior College Football Program

WELCOME TO ST GEORGE EAGLES FOOTBALL

Junior college football has disappeared from numerous states, leaving many high school graduates who aren’t offered major college scholarships with their dreams cut short before they truly begin. Starting in Fall 2023, USA Collegiate and The Coaches Team Foundation, a nonprofit organization, brought junior college football back to St. George—along with a “gap year” program designed to give recent graduates another shot at achieving their goals.

When people hear “junior college athletics,” they often underestimate the impact this transitional level of competition can have on a student-athlete’s growth both on and off the field. The same holds true for those taking advantage of the gap year opportunity.

The St. George Eagles, Utah’s first private team, are committed to helping post-high school players develop academically, athletically, and physically so they can reach their ultimate goal: playing major college football.

MEET THE HEAD COACH

KENYON HUGHES

Kenyon Hughes enters his first season as Head Coach of the St. George Eagles, bringing a strong football background, leadership experience, and passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field. His vision for the program emphasizes hard work, team culture, and building a competitive foundation for long-term success.

Growing up in a football family, Hughes began his coaching career with the Eagles as the team’s wide receivers coach during the 2025 season. The offense, in 2025, averaged over 30 points per game and every WR on the roster contributed by scoring at least one touchdown throughout the team’s nine-game season. This followed being around the game his entire life as he is the son of longtime coach Tyler Hughes, whose coaching background includes stops at Snow College, Ohio State, Minot State, the University of Washington, the New England Patriots, the University of Alabama and now at BYU. Growing up around the game gave Hughes an early understanding of leadership, preparation, and the culture required to build successful programs at every level of football.

As Head Coach of the Eagles, Hughes is focused on building the program through player development, both on and off the field while creating opportunities for athletes who want to continue their academic journey and football careers at the next level. Throughout his playing and coaching career, Hughes has had the opportunity to learn from respected coaches and successful programs, which has helped shape his coaching philosophy.

As a player, Hughes spent time playing collegiate football at Snow College, one of the nation’s premier junior college programs, before continuing his football career with the St. George Eagles under NJCAA Hall of Fame coach, Greg Croshaw. He also spent time at Utah Tech, continuing to develop his knowledge of the game and experience at multiple levels of football. A Utah native, Hughes prepped at Bountiful High School and was named a team captain as a senior.

Hughes is excited to lead the Eagles into a new era and to continue growing football opportunities in St. George. He is engaged to his fiancée, Kimber, and resides in St. George.

St. George Eagles is the first private Post High School Collegiate/ JUCO Football team in Utah whose program will help post-high school football players develop academically, athletically and physically to reach their goal of playing major college football.
